Next Generation Cloud

Published on July 4, 2014, written for ASI Cloud

The Countdown Has Begun: As the launch of the ASI Cloud Next Generation Cloud and Hosting infrastructure approaches, we look at what application lifecycle management, software monetisation, business intelligence analytics and on-demand workload management all have in common.

These key service features all form part of the ASI Cloud next generation cloud and hosting solution, designed to accelerate and simplifies cloud enablement for resellers and ISV’s, helping them extend their reach, increase revenues & grow their profits.

The Next Generation Cloud and Hosting infrastructure will be fully live this July. Developed and built alongside technology experts from Microsoft, Citrix, IBM and Arrow ECS, ASI Cloud has been designed to make any or all of these major service features available to ISVs, resellers and IT Buyers. Bringing such functionality together is a differentiator that ASI believes is vital to delivering comprehensive cloud-enablement support for a growing list of ISVs and software partners. Many ISVs are looking to transition their business models in line with the huge demand from IT buyers for technologies on a SaaS basis.

Available as a single source from the ASI Cloudbank ecosystem, this combination of application lifecycle management, software monetisation, business intelligence analytics and on-demand workload management is unique in the CSP space. Together, they offer ISVs an ideal opportunity to enter the cloud market with greater immediacy, minimum overhead and maximum cost efficiency. Unlike other pure public cloud PaaS solutions ASI Cloud infrastructure enables hosting and cloud enabling of existing versions of legacy software, offering ISVs the opportunity to sweat their legacy code investment for extended lifespan.

The portal brings global vendors, ISV’s and reseller channel partners together to deliver complementary, integrated cloud apps and bundles straight to IT customers and end users.

In this issue, we take a look at: Application Lifecycle Management.

The ASI Cloud infrastructure solution is extremely flexible and delivers an attractive option to ISVs, offering a comprehensive framework for building, developing and customising software applications without needing to invest in the underlying technology layers required. As a PaaS, ASI Cloud significantly cuts the amount of time it takes to develop software and applications and so, speeds up software release cycles.  The ASI Cloud solution is accessible, meaning that ISVs no longer need to set up an on-premise data-centre and because it reduces any hardware/software conflicts, ISVs are under less pressure to complete the development process.

Aggregated functionality for a better cloud experience

To create a valuable cloud enablement solution for ISVs, ASI Cloud offers an aggregate of functionality that is delivered by major vendor partners Citrix, IBM and Microsoft. Combining built-in test/development tools and capabilities with the Microsoft Azure Pack in Systems Center 2012 R2 and the Rational Functional Tester in IBM’s Flex System Manager, ASI Cloud delivers a highly scalable, highly available cloud-based service for simultaneous use by many customer organisations in the development of SaaS applications across a variety of platforms, locations and device types – all manageable within their own dedicated, multi cloud, via a self-service portal.

The ASI Cloud solution leverages the flexibility of public cloud offerings including Windows Azure platform, IBM Cloud, Softlayer and AWS to name a few – so that ISVs are only required to pay for the compute and storage resources they use in the stack. When application loads are light, developers need fewer Web and Worker role instances; when application loads are heavy, developers need the flexibility to request more, in both cases, ISVs will pay only for the resources their applications are using.

Utilising the Azure SDK, (software development kit), the ASI Cloud solution provides for compute emulation, storage emulation, application packaging and password encryption, enabling ISVs to run, test, debug and fine tune their applications in an isolated cloud environment.

Develop, test, verify, implement, bundle

Before deploying applications to the cloud, ISVs can collect volumes of diagnostic data, designed to help with debugging and troubleshooting, measuring performance, monitoring resource usage, analysing traffic, planning for capacity, and auditing.

By leveraging IBM’s Rational Functional Tester within the ASI Cloud solution, ISVs can automate tests that imitate the actions and assessments of a human tester to validate the functionality of an application. This feature captures users’ actions against test-applications and creates test scripts, (screen shots that form a visual storyboard) and provides object mapping to find and act against objects within the application which help to validate its’ functionality. All testing is logged for review of any software bugs that would require remediation before ISVs then implement applications seamlessly into an isolated and fully secure production environment within the ASI Cloud infrastructure.

Nick Davies, Sales Director, ASI Cloud “We believe that by aggregating the functionality delivered by Microsoft Azure Pack and IBM’s Flex System Manager within the ASI Cloud infrastructure, ISVs will benefit by managing the entire lifecycle of their cloud applications in one place. Our capabilities deliver far more than the development, testing, deployment and secure hosting of cloud applications; ASI Cloudbank is a portal through which ISVs can get access to customers looking for cloud-ready applications that can be bundled with other hosted solutions. Our unique cloud solution for ISVs also includes a software partner program that offers full support in taking their products to market.”

In our next blog, we will be looking at how the ASI Cloud software monetisation solution will help ISVs to maximise value from cloud-enabling their software, and how, by producing usage-based licencing models, they can meet the demand from IT buyers that are looking for customise software packages to suit them

Question: What do application lifecycle management, software monetisation, business intelligence analytics and on-demand workload management all have in common?

Available as a single source from the ASI Cloudbank ecosystem, this combination of application lifecycle management, software monetisation, business intelligence analytics and on-demand workload management is unique in the CSP space. Together, they offer ISVs an ideal opportunity to enter the cloud market or to expand their existing propositions with minimum overhead and maximum time/cost efficiency. The ASI Cloudbank portal brings global vendors, ISV’s and channel sales partners together to deliver complementary, integrated cloud apps and bundles straight to IT customers and end users.

Over the next few weeks, in the run up to the launch, we will be looking at how ASI’s Next Generation infrastructure will reduce the barriers of entry to the cloud hosting and SaaS space and enable immediacy to market to maximise the opportunities, whilst delivering the best possible customer experience. Here’s a summary of what we’ll be looking at, in more detail over the coming weeks:

Application Lifecycle Management ASI Cloud delivers a comprehensive framework to ISVs for building, developing and customising software applications without the need to invest in the underlying technology layers required. As a Platform as a Service (PaaS), ASI Cloud significantly cuts the amount of time it takes to develop software and applications and so, speeds up software release cycles.
